First preview of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’s score by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross

After winning last year’s Oscar for Best Original Musical Score for The Social Network (2010), David Fincher recruited Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross again for his English-language remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011).  Just a few months away from release, the studio has begun its marketing campaign, first with the teaser trailer (more information found HERE) and now with an early, seven-minute preview of Reznor and Ross’s haunting score.

If you’re like me and loved The Social Network and its brilliant score (particularly the recurring “Hand Covers Bruise” piece that made the soul of the film), then you’ll probably like the first preview of Reznor and Ross’s score for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.  It’s similarly minimalistic but perhaps creepier, though I still prefer the alternately hopeful and dark themes of “Hand Covers Bruise.”  Then again, this film has yet to come out and its score may work even better than Fincher’s last film, which would be an amazing feat.  For now, enjoy Reznor and Ross’s latest offering.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – starring Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgård, and Goran Visnjic – hits theaters December 21, 2011.  Also, for fans of the original see Rapace in the Sherlock Holmes sequel Game of Shadows.
