Roman Polanski’s Carnage (2011) finally gets a trailer

Regardless of your opinion about Roman Polanski, he still makes solid-to-great films.  For instance, he has brought one of cinema’s greatest screenplays alive with Chinatown (1974), haunted viewers with the disturbing Rosemary’s Baby (1968), recounted a harrowing WWII Holocaust story with The Pianist (2002), and most recently directed the underrated political-thriller The Ghost Writer (2010), which has an amazing final shot.  Now audiences will have the chance to see his next work Carnage on December 16, 2011 (or at the New York Film Festival on September 30).  Finally, the studio has released the film’s first trailer, which stars an excellent four-lead cast of Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet, and Christophe Waltz.

Based on Yasmina Reza‘s Tony-winning play God of Carnage, Carnage “tells the story of two sets of parents [Foster & Reilly opposite Winslet & Waltz] who decide to have a cordial meeting after their sons are involved in a schoolyard brawl” (IMDB).  The most intriguing part of the film – the entire film will take place in one room.  Seeing how Polanski and the excellent, awards-darling cast members turn this simple premise and small set into a thrilling film will be exciting or interesting, to say the least.  With the wide variety of screen personas, the film promises some great character moments.  In all, I put Carnage in my Most Anticipated Films list when I first heard about the production, and the trailer satisfies with a number of laughs and hints at some of the more serious segments, which will certainly be riveting due to the great cast.
