Film Review: Jane Eyre (2011)


I have neither read the famous Charlotte Brontë novel nor seen any other film or television adaptations of it, so I cannot comment on how well it is adapted or how it compares to the other versions.  However, I could not have asked for a better first impression of the classic story and characters.  Cary Fukunaga’s intense and stylish adaptation is thoroughly engaging, thanks in large part to spectacular lead performances by Mia Wasikowski and Michael Fassbender even if their chemistry together is not as passionate or apparent as it could have been.  Nonetheless, Jane Eyre (2011) is one of if not the best film of 2011 released thus far (originally released March 11).
